Important:
  • It is recommended that all new students access Zoom via Canvas in the first instance. This will provision your account and allow you to go via the Canvas LMS (Learning Management System).
  • Make sure you are logged out of the Zoom app before accessing via Canvas
  • You may still encounter this error if you click on a Zoom link from your calendar or To-do list in Canvas. You must access the Zoom link through the Zoom tab within your module (step 3 below) to activate your MTU account. 
  • If you encounter any issues, check your browser settings and ensure that third-party cookies are enabled (this will typically be under privacy settings). 

MTU's remote learning system is designed to support authentication to your live classes (using Zoom) through Canvas, so you should - wherever possible - access Canvas to attend a Zoom class.


Steps to Join Zoom via Canvas


Step 1:
Go to http://cit.instructure.com

and log in with your myMTU credentials (e.g. R00000000@mymtu.ie).


Step 2:

Select the module that contains the Zoom meeting or recording you wish to access.


Step 3:
From the Module Menu on the left, click the Zoom tab.



  • Upcoming classes will be listed under Upcoming Meetings.

  • To join a class, click Start/Join.

  • To view past sessions, click Cloud Recordings.





Step 4:
If prompted, download the Zoom app to your computer, tablet, or phone.


Step 5:
When the meeting opens, you may see a Waiting Room. Your lecturer will let you in when ready.


Step 6:
Select Join with Computer Audio if prompted.


  • Use the arrow beside the microphone icon to check or change your mic/speaker settings.

  • You can test your audio here too.


Step 7:
To leave the class, click Leave in the bottom-right corner.


Please note: Once you’ve joined Zoom through Canvas at least once, your account will be set up and you can also log in directly via the Zoom app using SSO and your MTU email.
