We have had some reports of an issue in the Zoom tab in Canvas where students cannot join classes or view recordings and see the message Sorry, your session was expired. Please refresh the page and login again.

This is an issue with third party cookies. If you are experiencing this problem, try any of the following workarounds:


  • Use a different browser: The issue does not appear to be affecting Google Chrome
  • Open Zoom links in a new tab:
Windows: Right-click the link and select Open in new tab or similar
Mac: Hold the Cmd ⌘ key while clicking the link

  • Fix the cookie issue in the browser that you use by following the steps below:

Safari
  • Select Settings (or Options on some versions). Navigate to the Privacy & Security panel.
  • Under the Enhanced Tracking Protection section, select Custom.
  • Ensure the Cookies dropdown is set to "Cross-site tracking cookies" or "All third-party cookies" are allowed
Firefox
  • Log in to Canvas
  • Click the Shield icon located to the left of the URL address bar
  • Locate the "Enhanced Tracking Protection is ON for this site" message
  • Toggle the switch OFF for Enhanced Tracking Protection
  • The message should change to "Enhanced Tracking Protection is OFF for this site."
  • Reload the page if needed
Opera
  • Go to Settings > Advanced > Privacy & security > Site settings > Cookies and site data and toggle "Allow sites to save and read cookie data" off.
