What is a Remotely Proctored Exam?

Remote Proctoring means that you will be able to access your exam questions through canvas and upload answers to canvas, but during this exam, you will be observed remotely through your computer's webcam and microphone.

CIT has partnered with a remote proctoring provider called Examity to support the remote proctoring of exams for CIT students during this time.

To do this, you will have to complete some additional tasks in the days before your exam and also during the exam. None of these are complex or should require too much of you, but it is important to be prepared and to have these completed to make sure your exam goes correctly.

You can think of this process in 3 stages:

  1. Setting up your Examity ID (at least 24 hours before the day of the exam)

  2. Accessing the exam on the day/ time

  3. Taking and submitting the exam

In addition to this, you should make sure that your technical setup for the day of the exam is correct.

Technical Setup for a Remotely Proctored Exam

It is important for taking your exams that you have the following browser setup:

  • You should be using a laptop or desktop computer (you cannot use your phone or tablet)

  • You should be using the Google Chrome browser.

  • You should disable your pop-up blocker (examity will need to show you some pop-ups)

  • You will need to have the following ready and working:

    • Built-in or external webcam

    • Built-in or external microphone

    • Built-in or external speakers

  • You should make sure that your internet connection is as strong as it can be (ask everyone else not to use the internet while you are taking the exam)

Examity will check all of the above while you are setting up your examity ID. Please be sure that all of these are in place and working before your exam

Room Setup for a Remotely Proctored Exam

On the day of the exam, you should try to have a quiet room to take the exam in where you will not be disturbed. You will also need to have pen and paper ready to write your exam answers down.

You will also need to upload photographs of your written exam answers through the canvas student app. You can see how to do this in this help article.

For setting up your Examity ID, you will need to show some form of ID. This should be your CIT student ID. If this is not available, your driver license or your passport will be fine also. You will need this to set up your examity profile, but you will also need to show the same ID on the day of the exam, so please have this ready!
